FLOWERS, CANDLES HONOR MEMORY OF OAK PARK STUDENT.

Flowers and candles were placed Monday in the quad at Oak Park High School in memory of Morgan Myers, a 17-year-old student who died at home Saturday after a seven-month battle with leukemia.

``All morning, students have been gathering near the memorial and giving out green ribbons to symbolize life,'' school counselor A school counselor is a counselor and educator who works in schools, and have historically been referred to as "guidance counselors" or "educational counselors," although "Professional School Counselor" is now the preferred term.  Tess Wilkoff said.

``The family came over this morning to look at the memorial and candle burning on the table. Some of the students didn't even know her, but they wanted to put something there that students would connect with.

``She had a great smile and was very positive that she could pull through this,'' Wilkoff said. ``I am extremely sad that someone so young and so full of life had to die. Whenever anyone of this age dies, it has a strong impact and puts everyone in touch with their mortality.''

Ashkan Dorri, 17, who had known Morgan since elementary school elementary school: see school. , said he was shocked when he learned of Morgan's death because she had been in remission after undergoing chemotherapy and had planned to return to school in the spring.

``Most students were shocked when they heard about it, and most had been hoping she'd come back to school in March as she was planning to,'' said Dorri, one of four peer counselors who visited the Myers family on Sunday. ``There was just disbelief.''

Morgan's 22-year-old brother, Matthew Myers Matthew Myers was a first class cricketer who played 21 games for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1876 and 1878. He also played for North of England (1877) and the Players of the North (1877-1878) in first class games and for Yorkshire in non first class matches. , 22, said his sister's death was unexpected and resulted from complications of her disease.

``She was just a beautiful person and an amazing friend, and she was always there for you in time of need,'' said Jennifer Dworkin, 17, another peer counselor, who had known Morgan for six years. ``We will miss her very much.''
