Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  team was talking with coach Vicky Rogers about arranging another college tryout and ways to improve her game, Principal Hardy Fletcher said.

Police said she first pointed it at Rogers and threatened to shoot her. She then turned the gun on herself as other students backed away and Rogers tried to talk her out of pulling the trigger.
