FLORIDA PSC APPROVES ENHANCED CALL RETURN

FLORIDA PSC APPROVES ENHANCED CALL RETURN
MIAMI, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Public Service Commission

approved today Southern Bell's tariff for Enhanced Call Return. This service identifies and calls back the number of the last calling party.
"With Enhanced Call Return the customer will also hear a voice message which gives the telephone number of the last incoming call," said Southern Bell spokesperson Spero Canton. "In some areas, the date and time the call was received will also be provided."
There are few differences between this "enhanced" service and the original Call Return. A customer who has been subscribing to the service will be prompted to enter an additional digit, "1", to activate the new features. At any time the customer may hang up to stop activation of the enhancements.
Calling Number Delivery Blocking (per line and per call) can be employed by callers to block their numbers from being identified, however, the Call Return feature will function. The blocking feature is activated by dialing star 67 on touchtone phones and 1167 on rotary dial phones.
If the line being called is busy, the customer will hear an announcement and a "queuing" process begins. For the next 30 minutes, both the calling and called lines will be checked periodically to determine whether the call can be completed. A distinctive ring is heard when the called line is available and the call is completed when the customer picks up the phone.
"There will be no additional cost of Enhanced Call Return," Canton said. "The new service will automatically be added to all customers who currently subscribe to Call Return."
If the incoming call is from a caller served by a PBX, only the main number of the PBX is transmitted and available for voice-back.
