-- How rare is a jackpot "bump?" This week's bump of the FLORIDA
LOTTO jackpot is the first since Feb. 5. Wednesday's FLORIDA
LOTTO drawing represents only the second drawing in 1999 for
which the jackpot has been bumped between drawings.
-- How long has it been since the jackpot was this high? This is
the highest jackpot since the July 24 drawing for an estimated
$55 million, when one lucky ticketholder won the jackpot and
selected the Lottery's single-payment cash option, receiving a
$25,438,370.41 prize.
-- How fast are tickets selling? At noon today, FLORIDA LOTTO
tickets were selling at the rate of 2,040 per minute for
Wednesday's $27 million jackpot, compared with 960 per minute
two weeks ago for a $6 million jackpot.
-- Why should players buy early? Lines at some retailers could
occur Wednesday evening as ticket sales peak at approximately
6,000 per minute, probably around 5-7 p.m. Typical Wednesday
sales have peaked at the 3,600-per-minute level since the
Wednesday drawings began Oct. 27. For the four weeks prior to
the addition of the Wednesday drawings, Wednesday sales peaked
at just 600-1,200 per minute.
-- How do higher jackpots benefit education in Florida? At the
expected peak of sales Wednesday, Lottery players will be
contributing approximately $2,300 per minute to education. By
the time the drawing is over, players will have contributed
approximately $2.3 million to education from this drawing alone.
