FLORIDA KEYS TOURISM COUNCIL SURVEY INDICATES INCREASED BOOKINGS FOR 1995.KEY WEST, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 1995--A survey of domestic travel agents and tour operators in key feeder markets for the Florida Keys Florida Keys, chain of coral and limestone islands and reefs, c.150 mi (240 km) long, extending from Virginia Key, S of Miami Beach, to Key West, and forming the southern extremity of Florida. & Key West revealed increased 1995 winter bookings compared to the same time period a year ago, the Monroe County Monroe County is the name of seventeen counties in the United States, named after President James Monroe:

More than 35 percent of respondents indicated they had processed more travel arrangements for clients than a year ago. Slightly more than 50 percent said their advance bookings were the same, while almost 12 percent reported decreases in Keys trips. The travel trade study was conducted by the TDC in late December with survey forms facsimiled to almost 300 agents and operators. Seventy seven agents and six tour operators, or 28 percent of the sampling, responded. "Although tourism flow from domestic sources represents one facet of our business, we are very encouraged by the results of the survey," said Mayor Samuel Feiner, chairman of the Monroe County Tourist Development Council. "It seems to mirror the positive comments we are hearing from Keys' hoteliers who say their bookings are improved over last year." The survey also queried the travel trade about winter bookings to South Florida, defined as Miami, Fort Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale (lô`dərdāl), residential, commercial, and resort city (1990 pop. 149,377), seat of Broward co., SE Fla., on the Atlantic coast; settled around a fort built (c.1837) in the Seminole War, inc. 1911. and Palm Beach. Slightly more than 26 percent reported increased business to South Florida, with almost 60 percent saying it was the same and 14 percent noted a decrease in reservations.
