FLOODS, MUD POSSIBLE IN FIRE-DAMAGED AREAS.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. A brief downpour Tuesday night caused no serious threat, but the forecast Wednesday for possible heavy downpours and small hail kept emergency workers with an eye to the sky. The concern was that mud and debris would flow from the mountains in the western Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. , stripped of vegetation by the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Fire.

 crews continued their assessment of the fire area to determine which areas might be prone to mudslides or flooding.

The flood warning was due to expire at 9 p.m. and calmer weather was predicted for today. The skies will be mostly cloudy in the morning, then partially clearing later in the day. Highs will be brisk, in the high 70s, with an overnight low hovering around 50.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with continued cool temperatures, with much the same predicted through the weekend.
