FLOAT DESIGNS WANTED; DEADLINES LOOM FOR ROSE PARADE IDEAS.

Byline: Lee Condon Staff Writer

The Rose Float associations in Glendale, Burbank and La Canada Flintridge are seeking entries in their float design contests for Rose Parade 2001.

The Burbank and La Canada Flintridge Rose Float associations have been using contests to select floats for many years. While the Glendale association hires Phoenix Decorating to build its float, Burbank and La Canada Flintridge volunteers build their floats from scratch.

``It can be stick figures and a written explanation,'' said LuRetta Haire, past president of the La Canada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association. Typically, the designs end up being modified by float association members.

``You may not recognize the design when we get done talking about it,'' Haire said.

While the parade is still more than 11 months away, Haire said the associations need to submit their ideas for the approval of the Tournament of Roses Association in February.
