MOJAVE - The Flight Systems operation of BAE Systems BAE Systems

British manufacturer of aircraft, missiles, avionics, naval vessels, and other aerospace and defense products. BAE Systems was formed (1999) from the merger of British Aerospace (BAe) with Marconi Electronic Systems.

BSI Inc. representatives presented the certificate of registration in ceremonies at Flight Systems' Mojave facility.

The AS 9100 standard, based on the ISO (1) See ISO speed.

 9001:2000 standard, provides for additional requirements that are specific to the aerospace industry. It is a quality management system to help ensure that design, manufacture and support of aerospace products meet their specifications and intended functions.

AS 9100 certification is becoming a requirement to do business around the world, company officials said.

The Mojave-based unit previously achieved registration requirements of the ISO 9000:1994 standards.

``With this certification, BAE Systems demonstrates its continued commitment to providing products, services and solutions of the highest quality, and its commitment to being a leader in the aerospace industry,'' said Ronald D. Mathis, senior vice-president, marketing and sales at BSI Inc., who presented the certificate.

BSI Inc. is a management systems registrar with headquarters in Reston, Va.

BAE Systems employs nearly 100,000 people worldwide and has annual sales of about $18 billion. It designs and manufactures military aircraft, ships, submarines, space systems, radar, avionics avionics (ā'vēŏn`ĭks), electronic instruments used in air or space flight; also the design and production of such instruments. Early planes had few instruments, but as aviation and aircraft became more complex, so did instrumentation. , electronics, guided weapon systems and other defense products.
