Lauren Fleshman of Canyon High had a breakthrough performance in the 1,600 meters at the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

The junior is shooting for another one in the 3,200 at the Arcadia Invitational.

Fleshman, who was ninth in the state meet for the eight-lap distance as a sophomore, is trying to eclipse her school-record 10:38.13.

At Arcadia, Fleshman will be joined by teammates Ryan Theule (boys' 800), Jasmine jasmine (jăs`mĭn, jăz–) or jessamine (jĕs`əmĭn), any plant of the genus Jasminum of the family Oleaceae (olive family).  Cetrone (girls' 800), Vinnie Le Donne (discus discus /dis·cus/ (dis´kus) pl. dis´ci   [L.] disk.

Fleshman ran a season best to easily win the 3,200 at the Pasadena Games two weeks ago, but she should run well under 11 minutes at Arcadia where she faces a field that includes Kimi Welsh of Yucaipa and Irvine University's Allyson Marquand.

In December, Fleshman, Welsh and Marquand all qualified for the Foot Locker Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL) is a major American sportswear and footwear retailer, with its headquarters in New York City, and operating in approximately 20 countries worldwide. It is the successor corporation to the F.W. Woolworth Company (“Woolworth’s”).  National cross country championships.

Fleshman is in good position to not only threaten her record but to eclipse the 10:30 barrier.

Fleshman beat Nordhoff's Elaine Canchola, a two-time state cross country champion, despite rain and taking the ACT test earlier in the day.

Holdaway, a freshman, won the triple jump. Barker won the long jump and placed second in the triple jump. Wenz cleared 10 feet in the pole vault pole vault

. Thompson was victorious in the 300 intermediate hurdles and finished third in the high jump.

Saugus' Jacob Boeding was the winner in the 1,600, and teammate John Getskow took second in the 800.

In Foothill League competition, the Canyon boys and girls' took a step toward a showdown with undefeated Hart for the league championship April 16 at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. .

Arcadia Invitational

Where: Arcadia High, 180 Campus Dr., Arcadia.

When: Saturday, Field Events 4 p.m., Running Events 6:15 p.m.

What: Lauren Fleshman of Canyon (3,200 meters) and Sara Foster of Valencia (high jump) compete in the 31st annual event which features sixty athletes who went on to compete for the U.S. in the last four Olympics.
