FLEDGLING ORANGE COUNTY HOME BUILDER BRINGS HOME THE GOLD
Two Plans at Vintage Communities' Premiere Project
Win Coveted Grand Award at 1992 Gold Nuggets
SAN FRANCISCO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- After less than one year in business, Vintage Communities Inc. has established itself as a leader in new home design and merchandising, and that growing reputation was affirmed when all three plans at Vintage Collection, its new first new- home project, were honored last night at the 1992 Gold Nugget Awards.
Two of the plans earned the coveted Grand Award in their respective categories. They include Plan No. 1, the "Classic Home," chosen Best Single-Family Detached Home from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, and Plan No. 2, the "Gathering Home," which was named Best Single-Family Detached Home from 2,001 to 2,500 square feet.
In addition, the third plan at Vintage Collection, the "Celebration Home," earned an Award of Merit as a finalist in the same category as Plan No. 2.
Vintage Collection is a group of 64 elegant, single-family move-up homes located in Foothill Ranch and priced from the mid-$200,000s. Since the community opened in January, more than 40 homes have been sold. Vintage Communities is a subsidiary of Kaufman and Broad Home Corp. (NYSE: KBH), California's largest single-family home builder.
The "Classic Home" is a single-story home offering either three bedrooms or two bedrooms plus a den, as well as two baths, a family room and an island kitchen, all in 1,892 square feet of living space. The "Gathering Home" is a two-story model with 2,164 square feet, featuring three bedrooms plus a loft or four bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, family room, island kitchen and a three-car garage.
All of the homes at Vintage Collection include vaulted ceilings, woodburning fireplaces, maple cabinetry, ceramic-tile countertops, Whirlpool appliances and many other amenities, as well as a variety of energy-saving features.
Vintage Communities was launched last June by Kaufman and Broad to create a new market identity for a second product group complementing its successful entry-level housing brand, the California Series. Based in Newport Beach, Vintage is responsible for developing single-family homes in both the entry-level and move-up markets in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties and is under the direction of Roland Osgood, president.
The Gold Nugget Awards, held in conjunction with the Pacific Coast Builders Conference trade show, honor the "Best in the West" in residential real estate design covering the 14 Western U.S. states and Pacific Rim countries.
"This year's competition drew nearly 500 entries in 36 separate categories," noted Osgood. "To earn two Grand Awards with our first community says a great deal about the quality and success of Vintage Collection, and bodes well for the future," he added. Vintage currently has one other community open for sale, Vintage Place in Anaheim Hills, and will open a second Foothill Ranch location, Vintage Gallery, next month.
In addition to the honors bestowed on Vintage Collection, Kaufman and Broad won a third Grand Award for a home it built at California Maison in San Jose. Plan No. 1, "The Tulip," was named Best Single- Family/Small Lot Detached Home from 1,200 to 1,600 square feet. The Tulip was also named "Home of the Year" among all small-lot detached entries.
Four other Kaufman and Broad homes also earned Awards of Merit in this year's competition. They include a second model at California Maison, as well as individual models at California View in Moreno Valley; California Marquis in Palmdale; and California Landing, The Villas in Milpitas.
All of Kaufman and Broad's Gold Nugget entries were designed by Kaufman and Broad's Architectural Services Group.
"We're extremely proud of these homes and the awards they've earned, which are among the most prestigious in our industry," said Michael L. Woodley, AIA, senior vice president, architecture. "We believe strongly that good design and affordability must go hand in hand, particularly in today's market, where buyers demand value as well as quality. We're especially pleased the Gold Nugget judges recognized that a smaller, more affordable home such as the Classic Home at Vintage Collection can also be well-designed," he added.
Los Angeles-based Kaufman and Broad is the largest producer of single-family housing in California and the largest builder in metropolitan Paris, where the company develops commercial office properties and a variety of residential investment properties in addition to single-family homes.
