FKN wins army-wide award.In a ceremony on 9 September, the online Fires Knowledge Network (FKN FKN - Franklin, Virginia (airport code)) development team presented the Commandant of the Field Artillery School, Major General David C. Ralston, the trophy that recognizes FKN as the most outstanding knowledge transformation initiative in the Army for 2005. The ceremony was held in McNair Hall at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The team is part of the Knowledge Management Branch of the Training and Development Division, Directorate of Training and Doctrine (DOTD DOTD - Dawn of the Dead (movie) DOTD - Day of the Dead (movie) DOTD - Deal of the Day DOTD - Department of Transportation and Development (Louisiana) DOTD - Descendants of the Dragon (game) DOTD - Directorate Of Training & Doctrine DOTD - Dumbass Of The Day), in the Field Artillery School. FKN competed against hundreds of knowledge transformation initiatives. FKN is a the Field Artillery School's site on Army Knowledge Online (AKO Ako (äkō`), city (1990 pop. 51,131), Hyogo prefecture, W Honshu, Japan, on the Harima Sea. Relying on its steel and chemical industries, Ako has become one of Japan's most polluted industrial cities. It is famous for its Oishi (Shinto) shrine, its Kogakuji (Buddhist) temple, and its Ako samurai festival, which is held every December.) that allows Soldiers rapid connectivity with the school via the internet to help find the information they need or solve problems while deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan or while stationed anywhere in the world. FKN is password-protected to provide operational secure information and is the first of its kind on AKO. FKN includes communities of practice sub-sites, such as 13F Fire Support Specialist, Master Gunner, Field Artillery magazine, directorates/departments in the Field Artillery School, FA units and other communities.
