FIVE-POINTS COULD BECOME FOUR; HEAVILY TRAVELED INTERSECTION COULD BE REALIGNED.Byline: Mary Lou Aurelio Daily News Staff Writer A five-point intersection considered one of the busiest in the city is up for an $18.2 million fix that includes realigning a street to make it a standard four-way corner. The intersection where Burbank and Victory boulevards meet Victory Place ``has long been one of the most heavily congested con·gest·ed adj. Victory Boulevard serves as a major artery bringing traffic from the south and west. At peak traffic time, motorists can wait up to four minutes for a green light, he said. ``With the improvements, it will be two minutes,'' Moss said. If the council OKs the first phase of the project, work will begin within a month, said Steve Donley, Burbank Community Development administrative officer. When completed, it will be a standard four-point intersection. Under the proposal, Victory Boulevard will be realigned so that it no longer feeds into the intersection. Victory Boulevard would meet Burbank Boulevard approximately 500 feet west of the five-points intersection. The plans also call for the Burbank Boulevard Bridge to be widened on the northern side, from the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. The project is expected to be finished sometime by the end of 2000, or beginning of 2001. CAPTION(S): Map MAP: Five-points intersection |
