VENTURA - Ventura County supervisors appointed five members Tuesday to its first ethics commission In the United States, an Ethics Commission is a commission established by State law to discourage dishonest practices by their public employees and elected officials. Almost all American states have such a commission.  charged with enforcing the county's new campaign finance laws.

The new rules, introduced by Supervisors Kathy Long and Steve Bennett The name Steve Bennett refers to more than one person:
  • Steve Bennett, the head of Starchaser, a company involved in space development and tourism.

The committee is made up of retired judges Steven Stone and William Peck, Rabbi rabbi [Heb.,=my master; my teacher], the title of a Jewish spiritual leader. The role of the rabbi has undergone a number of transformations. Under the law, the commission is charged with fleshing out how it will conduct investigations.

Candidates who agree to the spending limits can accept individual contributions up to $600, while those who refuse face a $300 donation caps.

The new law, passed in March, will even the playing field for the March 2004 elections, supervisors said.
