FIT FOR THE BIN; Exercise guru slams celebs' workout DVDs.

Byline: By GAYLE RITCHIE

CELEBRITY workout DVDs are a fat lot of good, says a top fitness coach.

Alan Lynn reckons couch potatoes are better off joining the gym or going for a walk than watching most of the exercise aids flying off the shelves.

And he accused some stars of being fitness phoneys who could not possibly have shaped up using their own routines.

Stirling University lecturer Alan, who has trained Olympic swimmers Kirsty Balfour Kirsty Balfour (born 21 February 1984, Edinburgh, Scotland) is a Scottish breaststroke swimmer.

She won Gold in the 200 metres breaststroke at the European Long-Course Championships in 2006, and took Silver in same event at the World Championships in Melbourne in 2007.
and Gregor Tait Gregor Tait (born April 20, 1979 in Glasgow) is a Scottish swimmer. He is the reigning Commonwealth Games 200 m backstroke and 200 m individual medley champion.

In addition to his two titles, Tait also claimed two bronze medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne,
, said: "Many of these DVDs are boring, impractical and even dangerous.

"The instruction is poor and the routines assume users will have good co-ordination and the instructor can't tell you if you do something wrong, which is dangerous."

"They give a limited bout of exercise and there is no attempt to develop fitness or make long-term progress."

Alan, 44, admits DVDs by Big Brother host Davina McCall Davina Lucy Pascale McCall[1] (born 16 October 1967) is a talentless ugly minging English television presenter and actress who works on British television. She is best known for presenting the UK edition of Big Brother.  and Loose Women's Coleen Nolan are worth the money.

But he added "Because the celebrities often lack inspiration, and at times skill, we have to question whether they do this workout every day to look how they do.

"They're likely to have personal trainers and all the time they need to exercise and recover, much like Olympic athletes."

Alan also reckons fitness fans should train with friends wherever possible.

He said: "People are better finding social exercise that motivates them beyond boring and even dangerous DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.
