FISCHER IMAGING ANNOUNCES $34M OEM AGREEMENT

DENVER, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Fischer Imaging Corp. (NASDAQ: FIMG) announced it has signed a multiple year contract with Varian Associates of Palo Alto, Calif., for the supply of x-ray imaging systems to be used in conjunction with Varian's therapy simulation systems for cancer treatment. The expected value is $34 million.
According to Fischer's chairman and chief executive officer, Morgan W. Nields, "This new agreement is the largest contract Fischer Imaging has signed with any single customer. We have been supplying x-ray imaging systems to Varian since 1983 and we are delighted to announce this new agreement."
The products include a computer tomography system and a high frequency generator and imaging system that are used in conjunction with Varian's market leading Ximatron Therapy Simulation System.
"Fischer has worked very hard to satisfy our and our customers' requirements for specifications, safety and support over the past 10 years," said Varian Executive Vice President Richard M. Levy, who heads the company's health care systems business. "We look forward to a continuation of that critical spirit of responsiveness."
In April 1993, Fischer purchased several x-ray imaging product lines from Varian Associates. This new contract does not include product lines that Fischer purchased under that accord.
Fischer Imaging designs, manufactures and markets specialty and general purpose x-ray imaging systems for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The company's principal product lines are directed toward medical specialties in which minimally invasive techniques are replacing open surgical procedures.
