Veteran actors Mel Brooks and Cloris Leachman were honored Saturday with Emmys in a nontelevised prelude to the Sept. 13 awards ceremony.

Awards in the creative arts categories also went to actors Emma Thompson Emma Thompson (born 15 April 1959) is an Emmy-, BAFTA- and Academy Award-winning English actress, comedian, and screenwriter. She is also a patron of the Refugee Council. Biography

Thompson was born in Paddington, London, England.

Emmys in 28 major categories will be presented in two weeks at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The four-hour, 50th anniversary Emmy Awards ceremony will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on NBC.

Saturday's ceremony will be shown in a one-hour edited version at 8 p.m. Sept. 11 on cable's TV Land.
