FIRST MEXICAN GALLERY OPENED BY CLAYTON MARCUS
HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Clayton Marcus Company,

a subsidiary of High Point-based LADD Furniture, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: LADF), recently opened its first retail upholstered furniture gallery in Latin America. According to Clayton Marcus resident Ken Church, the new 2,200 square-foot Mexico City gallery features 12 fully-accessorized room settings, as well as Clayton Marcus' full assortment of 900 different upholstery fabrics. In announcing the opening, Church said, "we're delighted to be able to bring the Clayton Marcus reputation for style, quality and value to Mexican consumers."
Last month, LADD chairman Richard R. Allen announced the formation of a new corporate marketing unit, LADD International, headed by David C. Ogren - VP market development. Ogren, who represented both LADD and Clayton Marcus at the Mexico City store opening, said, "This marketing breakthrough is the result of concentrated recent efforts to establish worldwide distribution for various LADD company products. As part of that effort, we have been actively developing the Mexican marketplace for some time."
According to Church, a special feature of the new gallery is the first retail installation in Mexico of an in-store computerized selling system, Clayton Images(TM). This Macintosh-based system contains the company's full line of frames and fabrics and permits consumers to design and then view in full color their personalized upholstered furniture choices, greatly simplifying the final purchase decision. The Clayton Images(TM) system also provides on-line product availability information and permits electronic customer order entry directly through the computer.
With three manufacturing plants in Hickory, NC, Clayton-Marcus is a leading U.S. producer of high quality, medium-priced residential upholstery and a LADD Furniture, Inc. subsidiary company. In addition to Clayton-Marcus, LADD's other major furniture brand names include American Drew, American of Martinsville, Barclay, Brown Jordan, Daystrom, Design Horizons, Fournier, Lea Industries and Pennsylvania House. LADD also distributes its products internationally through LADD International Sales Corp. The firm also owns and operates two support companies, Lea Lumber & Plywood and LADD Transportation, and its stock is traded on the O-T-C National Market System under the NASDAQ symbol LADF.
