Launching his first full day as Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles since Cristobal Aguilar in 1872.  traveled the city Saturday planting trees, greeting supporters and attending the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected City Councilman Bill Rosendahl Bill Rosendahl is a Los Angeles City Councilman, representing Council District 11, including the communities of Brentwood, Del Rey, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Palms, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Venice, West Los Angeles and Westchester. .

The City of Los Angeles was a streamlined passenger train jointly operated by the Chicago and North Western Railway and the Union Pacific Railroad.
,'' Villaraigosa told the crowd of about 500 gathered at Venice Beach for Rosendahl's ceremony.

The mayor, who earlier in the day planted a golden medallion tree in West Adams at a morning event sponsored by TreePeople, praised Rosendahl as ``a man who has the courage of his convictions'' and ``a core of integrity.''

After his swearing-in, Rosendahl pledged to work with all the governing bodies in and around his district and predicted that Villaraigosa would be a great leader for the city.

``It's all about people and partnerships,'' Rosendahl told the attendees, which included City Council members, Police Chief William Bratton, Los Angeles Fire Chief William Bamattre, state Attorney General Bill Lockyer William Westwood "Bill" Lockyer (born May 8, 1941) is the current State Treasurer of California. Prior to this, he served as California's Attorney General and head of the Department of Justice for the U.S. state of California. , Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky Zev Yaroslavsky (born December 21, 1948) is a Los Angeles County politician. He served on the Los Angeles City Council from 1975 until 1994, when he was elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. He was preceded in both offices by Edmund D. Edelman. , former Councilman Marvin Braude Marvin Braude (August 11, 1920—December 7, 2005)served as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 11th district from 1965 to 1997. At various times Mr. Braude (pronounced BROW-dee) served as chair of the Finance and Revenue Committee, the Environmental Quality and Waste , and former Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002.  and his wife, Nancy.

``It's an exciting day at City Hall,'' said City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel. ``There is so much energy and passion about working together to make Los Angeles a better city.''

City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, sister of former Mayor James Hahn, said it is important for council members to visit all parts of the city to talk with constituents ``because we don't just represent our districts, but the city of Los Angeles.''

Mobbed by well-wishers after the ceremony, Villaraigosa headed to City Hall for meetings and was scheduled to visit the Hollywood Division police station and Los Angeles Fire Station No. 15.

``It's a new day, and hopefully a better one,'' said Susan Bok, 49, of Mar Vista, who said she hoped to see improvements in mass transit and traffic. ``Fresh blood, fresh ideas and fresh energy - we need to give them a chance to make a footprint on the city.''
