FIRST DATA CORPORATION'S HEALTH SYSTEMS GROUP ACQUIRES GERBER ALLEY

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- First Data Corporation (FDC) Health Systems Group today announced it will acquire Gerber Alley and merge with the Atlanta-based health information systems company.
 The transaction creates one of the largest healthcare information systems providers in the industry, with more than 700 hospital clients and approximately 1,000 employees in the United States and abroad.
 Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
 "The combination of FDC Health Systems Group and Gerber Alley will enable us to take a giant leap toward our goal of establishing a leadership position in the health systems industry," said Larry Ferguson, president of Health Systems Group.
 "With breakthrough technology and a sound financial base, FDC's Health Systems Group is strongly positioned to provide the highest quality products and services to healthcare clients.
 "This merger joins two industry leaders with the right ingredients -- the products, technological expertise, resources and vision -- to create a new era in healthcare information systems solutions. Both Gerber Alley and First Data Corp. clients will benefit from existing synergies in our computer-based patient record development efforts and our open systems architecture capabilities."
 Health Systems Group is organized by product lines, offering information systems to a wide variety of hospitals across the U.S. and internationally. Gerber Alley's product, The Precision Alternative, will be the company's turnkey solution for mid-to-large sized hospitals. Health Systems Group will continue to offer its current turnkey and outsourced solutions, and the company will remain headquartered in Charlotte.
 With the merger, Health Systems Group will have offices in the U.S. in Charlotte, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis,
Philadelphia and Portland, Ore. International offices will be in the


United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
