FIRMS TO LEAD TOURS IN RIVALRY TO DESIGN CITY BUILDINGS; WESTLAKE VILLAGE OFFICIALS TO EXAMINE ARCHITECTS' WORK.

Byline: Kevin F. Sherry Daily News Staff Writer

City Council members will take two field trips this week to help them decide who will build the new City Hall and library.

The initial list of 18 architects has been whittled down to two, Fields and Devereaux Architects and Engineers of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and LPA LPA Lysophosphatidic Acid

Today, Fields Devereaux personnel will take the five council members and city staff officials on a daylong tour of six or seven facilities.

``They'll be going by some of the current projects of Fields and Devereaux,'' said City Clerk In the United States, a City Clerk is an elected or appointed official who is responsible as the official keeper of the municipal records. In some places, the Clerk may be known as the "Village Clerk" or "Town Clerk".  Laura Johnson, who arranged the tours. ``This is Fields Devereaux's opportunity to show their projects, some of their work.''

The projects are in Glendale and Beverly Hills and on campuses of the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  and California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. ``We're going to show them a number of office buildings, a number of public buildings and a number of libraries that we have completed,'' said Michael Vela vela

On Thursday, personnel of LPA will take the same group of Westlake Village officials on a similar tour, starting in Irvine.

``Basically it'll give us a good idea about the type of staff that each firm has,'' said Councilwoman Betty De Santis. ``We hope to have a chance to talk with the staff.''

The council members want to judge the level of creativity of each firm and each one's ability to carry out a client's concept within a budget, De Santis said. The council's final decision will be made by the end of 1998, she said.

The City Hall-library complex will sit on 3.69 acres at the southeast corner of Agoura Road and Oak Crest Drive in the Spectrum Business Park.

City officials say the site is large enough for a 10,000-square-foot City Hall, a 10,000-square-foot library and a 2,500-square-foot chamber of commerce building.
