FIRMS TAKING FUND-RAISER TO HEART.

A number of businesses in the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  and Antelope valleys will be asking their customers to "Have a Heart" and donate money all month in observance of National Heart Month.

Contributions collected by the businesses will support the American Heart Association's heart-disease and stroke research and programs.

Participants include American Savings Bank savings bank, financial institution that, until recently, performed only the following functions: receiving savings deposits of individuals, investing them, and providing a modest return to its depositors in the form of interest.  in Newhall; First Nationwide Savings, Experts 'N Hair and MD Flooring and Design in Valencia; and Holiday Buick Oldsmobile in Palmdale.

Customers who donate $1 will receive a red heart; $5, a gold heart, and $10 and up, a platinum heart. Donors may sign their names, write personal messages or inscribe in·scribe

The Heart Association is recruiting additional businesses for the program. Information is available by calling Pat Willett at (805) 259-3845.

The Santa Clarita branch has a $94,000 fund-raising goal this year.

Have a Heart is an effective fund-raiser because it reaches out to people who wouldn't necessarily take part in Heart Association-sponsored events, said Beverly Silsbee chairwoman of the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  branch.

"The Heart Association's appeal is truly universal," she said. "Is there anyone who doesn't know somebody who has suffered the loss of a friend or a loved one to heart disease?"
