FIRM TO TRACK PC USE IN THE HOME
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Once the subject of science

fiction, the personal computer is well on its way to being included on the American list of "must-haves" for the home. The Gordon S. Black Corporation has developed a new syndicated research program to help those in tracking developments in this emerging market. Called the "Home PC/Systems"(TM), the program provides a low cost way for subscribers to monitor the changing character of the home PC market.
"Over 25 million American households have computer systems," says Robert C. Kallstrand, vice president for research. "It is a market of increasingly sophisticated consumers; a company that wants to compete must be acquainted with the attitudes and behaviors of these at-home users."
"Home PC/Systems Tracker" is based on "listening to the voice of the consumer," according to Kallstrand. The program includes quarterly telephone surveys to over 1,600 households and 400 current PC users, based on random calls that are carefully weighted to provide accurate projections to the U.S. base of households.
In addition to the basic survey information, subscribers will have an opportunity to submit questions for inclusion in any or all quarters during the subscription period at special subscriber rates. The program also allows oversampling for select products or market segments, providing subscribers with proprietary data at a small marginal rate.
Two levels of participation are available. The first entitles subscribers to a two volume set of detailed tables each quarter, depicting all topics covered in the research. These volumes will consist of nearly 600 pages of tabular output allowing customized analysis by each subscriber. Special tables will track trends and changes on key parameters over time and all data are also available on data diskette. Executive summary reports will be produced quarterly and the opportunity to discuss research results with program staff will be offered.
Subscribers to this full service program will also receive the "Home PC/Systems Tracker Bulletin(TM)," a quarterly eight page publication consisting of graphs and narrative on the changing nature of the home PC market. Bulletin topics will include brand awareness, purchase considerations, application software, satisfaction with current PC systems and printers, and user/non-user demographics.
The second option, for firms needing only limited access to the research, is a subscription to the "Home PC/Systems Tracker Bulletin."
"We are in a unique position to offer this program," says Kallstrand. "The firm has over 15 years experience researching technology issues and the program staff has the background needed to develop high quality, value-added research that addresses the tactical and strategic decisions critical to the growing market."
The Gordon S. Black Corporation is a full-service market research firm. Best known as the public opinion polling firm for the "USA Today" and other major newspaper, the firm also conducts customer satisfaction and new product development research for office automation and high technology companies. The firm is currently accepting subscriptions to the "Home PC/Systems Tracker Program."
