FIRM DENIES OVERBILLING.

 subcontractor denied Thursday that it overbilled the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  and vowed to open its financial books to the public and investigators.

 Mullinax's three-month audit, BMP Group submitted $491,326 in unsubstantiated bills.

Siegel said his company took all of its direction from the lead construction firm, Turner/Kajima, and submitted its billing requests to Turner/Kajima as per its contract.

The BMP Group has not yet been paid for its final billing request.

``I'm speechless,'' Siegel said. ``We are referring the matter to our attorneys. The investigator's claims are absolutely false. . . . We were not privy to the numbers that are in question and we were never asked about the billings.''

Mullinax, a former investigator for the U.S. Senate, said he stands by his findings.
