FIREFIGHTER'S DEATH AN ACCIDENT, REPORT SAYS.

ENCINO - A probe into the death of a Los Angeles firefighter who was fatally injured when her crew's engine backed over her at a fire scene concluded that it was an accident, according to a preliminary LAFD LAFD Los Angeles Fire Department

Foster, a Palmdale resident, had been assigned to ride the tailboard and act as the eyes and ears of the engineer and to signal with a bell if any obstructions blocked the truck as it left the scene.

Fire officials said Friday that they were relieved that the death was not due to human error or mechanical failure.

``We took some comfort that some piece of equipment didn't fail or that somebody didn't do something wrong to injure or hurt a fellow firefighter,'' said Capt. At some point Foster either fell or jumped off, and became pinned under a wheel. Emergency crews quickly transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
