FINGERHUT COMPANIES, INC. TO EXPAND ORDER TAKING
AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IN FORMER QVC SPACE
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Fingerhut Companies, Inc. (NYSE: FHT) today announced a tentative agreement with the Carlson Real Estate Company to lease the space occupied until late September 1992 by QVC Network, Inc. This agreement will allow Fingerhut to immediately expand inbound telemarketing and customer service operations.
According to Fingerhut chairman and CEO Ted Deikel, "With the availability of this space, we can quickly implement our expansion plans. This provides us with a cost effective alternative for handling fourth quarter volume and gives us access to a highly trained work force." The company hopes to hire many of the former QVC employees.
"Actions such as these help keep the Minnesota economy healthy," said Gov. Arne H. Carlson. "Fingerhut has now announced two expansion plans in Minnesota in the last three months and the Twin Cities expansion will create jobs for displaced QVC employees." Fingerhut recently announced the addition of a telemarketing facility in Duluth, Minn., which will officially open on Oct. 9.
Fingerhut Companies, Inc. is one of the nation's largest catalog marketing companies and sells brand name and private label merchandise primarily through direct mail to an active base of 13 million customers. The company employs approximately 8,000 people in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Tennessee. Fingerhut Companies, Inc. common stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol FHT.
