FINDING YOUR FAMILY IN THE VALLEY.Byline: - Simone Schramm Researching your family history can be tedious, but it can also be fun and rewarding. Just ask Muriel Fisher, founder of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills. Her family tree on her father's side currently dates back to 12th-century Europe, with William the Conqueror William the Conqueror: see William I, king of England. of Yorkshire and Count Drago, who supposedly were cousins. ``I haven't proven this yet, but apparently the information is out there,'' said Fisher, who began tracing her ancestors in the early 1970s when she became an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a Colonial patriotic society in the United States, open to women having one or more ancestors who aided the cause of the Revolution. The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C. . Her Dutch ancestry dates back to the Huguenots, who were persecuted by the Catholics. The San Fernando Valley Genealogical Society started when Fisher met Marcia Stowers, who organized the DAR in Oregon. Stowers gave $50,000 to start the program and fund scholarships.
