FINALLY, OAKS CHRISTIAN FACES A CHALLENGER WHO FIGHTS.

Byline: RAMONA SHELBURNE Ramona Shelburne is an American sports journalist currently writing for the Los Angeles Daily News.

Shelburne was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, California where she was a class valedictorian.

CARSON - It was always there. Always bubbling up. Always just itching, screaming, fighting to come out.

It's just that most times, there was no one worthy enough to take it out on. It just isn't that fun to level a 130-pound guy on the other side of the ball when you're up 42-0.  and a uniform on, he might be fired up, but it's about as satisfying as kicking your 8-year-old brother's butt in basketball.

Oaks Christian's players will tell you the same thing. Winning all those games in a row was fun, sure. But as a competitor, there's always been something missing. Well, more like someone. As in, someone to hit back, someone worthy of hitting, someone good enough to push you near failure to see what you're really made of.

Saturday afternoon, Oaks Christian finally found "Finally Found" was the debut single from the Honeyz. This was their most successful single in the UK and worldwide, securing a number 4 position in the UK singles chart and achieved platinum status in Australia [1] Tracklisting

 a worthy foe.

After four years of lopsided wins, glossy national magazine covers and mountains of hype, Oaks Christian finally had to compete.

without an ounce of fear or awe in their eyes. It was the fight Oaks Christian had been spoiling for. The fight every single one of its 11 Div.I-bound seniors had probably resigned themselves to waiting until next year for.

``As a competitor, you want to win no matter what,'' senior defensive end Duke Lemmens said. ``But it means so much more to win like this. We left every single bit of ourselves on this field today. I can't say we've done that in our whole four years.''

It wasn't pretty. The kid with the golden arm, Jimmy Clausen James Richard "Jimmy" Clausen (born September 21, 1987, in Thousand Oaks, California[3]) is an American football player. He is a quarterback at the University of Notre Dame. , threw three interceptions. Oaks Christian committed nine penalties for 110 yards. The high-flying aerial attack looked like it lost an engine. After the game, the critics were buzzing. Rightly so. Oaks Christian came out flat and played like it was driving on a flat tire. The Lions will probably drop several spots in all the state and national polls. Ask them if they care.

``This is the type of game I'm always going to remember,'' defensive back Anthony Gildon said. ``I don't care

It wasn't the clean, early-round knockout we're used to from Oaks Christian. But the Lions overcame those shortcomings A shortcoming is a character flaw.

``People say we're a finesse team; people say we're soft,'' wide receiver Sean Wiser said. ``We may not have played our best game today, but we did show that we have heart.''

Before the playoffs, I had a conversation with Oaks Christian running back Marc Tyler Marc Tyler (born September 27, 1988 in Palmdale, California) is an American football running back for the University of Southern California Trojans football team. High school career

about the possibility of the Lions tying the 46-game winning streak, shared by Canyon and Temple City, and Clausen and Tyler both having a shot at the state's all-time scoring record.

``Are you excited about any of that stuff?'' I asked.

Tyler is normally a laid-back guy, but his expression this time was more than just laid back. It bordered on disgusted.

``Man, I wish we could play in that Pac-5 Division with all those good teams,'' he said, shaking his head. ``Did you see all those good teams in that division?''

He wanted a challenge, even if put all streaks and records in jeopardy. Most games this year, Tyler only averaged 12 carries a game. His season ended prematurely in the first round of the playoffs when he broke his leg.

But until Saturday, no team had made the Lions really miss Tyler. Cardinal Newman stacked the defensive backfield with eight players and dared Jimmy Clausen to pick them apart. Somebody finally stepped up to the big, bad Lions and said ``Boo.'' That's all they've ever wanted.

``They were a hell of a team. They're well-coached. They played great. I have a ton of respect for Cardinal Newman,'' Lemmens said. ``I can't think of a better way to finish our senior year.''
