FINAL TALLY SHOWS OVERWHELMING VICTORY FOR JEFFERSON-PILOT DIRECTORS;

SHAREHOLDERS APPROVE STOCK GRANT PROGRAM, REJECT PARSONS PROPOSALS
 GREENSBORO, N.C., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Jefferson-Pilot Corporation (NYSE: JP) shareholders overwhelmingly voted on behalf of the company's nominees and against the slate proposed by Donald and Louise Price Parsons, according to the official letter of certification issued today by the independent Inspector of Elections, Corporation Trust Company.
 Donald Parsons received the lowest vote for any director -- 12 percent of the vote -- while Louise Price Parsons received only 15 percent.
 Shareholders voted in favor of the company's stock grant program by a margin of nearly two to one, and rejected the Parsons Group's three proposals.
 A spokesman for Jefferson-Pilot stated, "This is a crushing defeat for the Parsons Group, no matter how good a face they try to put on it. They spent an exorbitant amount of borrowed money to conduct a glitzy campaign, and have nothing to show for it. Now that the shareholders have spoken, Louise Price Parsons should stop her disruptive litigation."
