THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER ****

SKY MOVIES ACTION/THRILLER 5.40pm

Sean Connery plays a renegade Soviet commander who pinches a state-ofthe-art Russian submarine and sets sail for America in this taut adaptation of Tom Clancy's best-seller. The Scots superstar's Minsk accent could do with work, but his charisma is undeniable, and the set pieces are spectacularly well-handled by John McTiernan, the man who gave us Die Hard.

John Travolta provides a low-key performance as George, a simple kind of guy. He lives in the rolling sunbleached hills of California with his dog, fixes cars for a living and has a vegetable patch to keep him happy. Then, on his 37th birthday, a bright light knocks him flat and he is turned into a genius, capable of seemingly inhuman telekinetic abilities.

Kitsch remake of the classic comedy, with Matthew Broderick.

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER ***

BBC1 12.10am Dark and sinister thriller with plenty of tricks up its sleeve. An lonely and anonymous surveillance expert is employed to track down a suspected blackmailer, but soon becomes obsessed with his beautiful target. Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd are on fine form in this little-seen gem.
