In fact, November -- with 32 permits issued and 80 film days -- was the best November on record for Santa Clarita, which lures the industry to a variety of outdoor locations as well as a collection of studios.

``Despite competition from other states and countries that offer financial incentives, like Vancouver (British Columbia British Columbia, province (2001 pop. 3,907,738), 366,255 sq mi (948,600 sq km), including 6,976 sq mi (18,068 sq km) of water surface, W Canada. Geography

The city, he said, has focused marketing efforts on film-friendly business and residential neighborhoods and low permit fees. Production companies also like the ``reverse commute'' -- coming into the valley as commuters are heading the opposite way.

Television filming represented 263 of the 387 film days from July through November, while commercials and features represented the second-largest number of film days with a total of 95. Still, student and music shoots accounted for the remaining film days.
