FREEDOM FEST: The fourth annual Freedom Festival is under way this weekend, celebrating films from Central and Eastern Europe The term "Central and Eastern Europe" came into wide spread use, replacing "Eastern bloc", to describe former Communist countries in Europe, after the collapse of the Iron Curtain in 1989/90. that help moviegoers understand post-Stalinist freedom in the region. Tonight's feature is ``Brother 2,'' Russian director Alexei Balabanov's sequel to his 1997 feature centered on fictional anti-hero anti-hero, principal character of a modern literary or dramatic work who lacks the attributes of the traditional protagonist or hero. The anti-hero's lack of courage, honesty, or grace, his weaknesses and confusion, often reflect modern man's ambivalence toward Danila Bagrov. On Sunday there is a screening of Yugoslavia's ``Sky Hook,'' about a former athlete and his friends who take up street basketball as an escape from constant threats of bombardment. ``Sky Hook'' won the audience award last month at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. All films are shown in their original language with English subtitles. Screenings are at Laemmle's Monica Theater in Santa Monica and at Sony Pictures Studios The Sony Pictures Studios are located on 10202 West Washington Boulevard in Culver City, California. The UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX Film and Television Archive will show ``Amores Perros (Love's a Bitch)'' at 7:30 p.m. Saturday as part of its Contemporary Latin American Films series. Director Gonzalez Inarritu's feature debut, set in Mexico City, has won multiple awards at film festivals and will compete for the foreign-language award at the upcoming Oscars.
