If those homespun Academy Awards parties are getting a little old, dust off your formalwear, open your checkbook, and head for the Hollywood Entertainment Museum on Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. .

The museum is hosting its annual Oscar viewing and Taste of Hollywood party, catered by such area restaurants as Chef Harry, Yamashiro, Pinot Hollywood and the Knitting Factory The Knitting Factory is a New York City and Hollywood music club, originally specializing in jazz and experimental music.

It was opened in 1987 by Michael Dorf and Bob Appel, both from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Tickets start at $100 per person for nonreserved seating. Tables of four in the real ``Cheers'' bar set go for $1,000, as do tables of six in the ``Star Trek'' bridge.

The affair benefits the museum's educational programs that serve at-risk youth.

But admit it: When you're ready to fill out your Academy Awards party ballot, you pause at the documentary shorts and features categories, wince, then, like a novice at a racetrack, pick the title you like best.

Here's a chance to improve your odds in the Oscar pool. On Saturday, the International Documentary Association will present a daylong showcase of this year's 10 Oscar-nominated features and shorts.

DocuDay, often a sellout, will be held in the Paramount Theatre at Paramount Studios, 5555 Melrose Ave. in Hollywood. Parking is available on the lot near the Bronson Gate entrance.

General admission is $7 per program or $30 for an all-day pass. Full-time students, seniors and IDA Ida (ē`dä), city (1990 pop. 91,859), Nagano prefecture, central Honshu, Japan, on the Tenryu River. ISRAELI FILMS PLAY ENCINO: The 17th annual Israel Film Festival opens Tuesday and for the first time will make its entire series easily accessible to Valley residents.

The opening-night gala is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood with a showing of ``Time of Favor,'' a controversial drama based on a true story about a religious army officer accused of planning to bomb a mosque on the Temple Mount of Jerusalem. He is torn between loyalty to his rabbi and his duty to his nation. The film won six Israeli Academy Awards, including best picture.

Tom Rothman, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment and founder of Fox Searchlight searchlight, device, usually swiveled, using a lens and reflecting surface to direct a powerful beam of light of nearly parallel rays. In 1892 such apparatus was used along the English Channel in coastal defense and later, in the South African War, as an aid to  Pictures, will receive the festival's lifetime achievement award. Filmmaker/playwright Ephraim Kishon   (Hebrew: אפרים קישון , the first Israeli nominated for an Academy Award, will accept the Visionary Award.

``Time of Favor'' and more than 30 other titles will screen through April 5 at two Laemmle Theatres locations: the Music Hall, 9036 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. , and the Town Center 5, 17200 Ventura Blvd. in Encino.

In previous years, a portion of the slate played at the Encino location, but festival organizers decided to make the entire program available there this year in response to its growing audience.
