FILM SNEAK PEEK COOPER TRIBUTE TO FEATURE MOVIE SERIES, EXHIBITION.

On the 100th anniversary of Gary Cooper's birth, the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

 Film and Television Archive and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are paying tribute to the screen legend with a film series and exhibit.

This weekend's offerings at UCLA include a pair of French Foreign Legion Foreign Legion, French volunteer armed force composed chiefly, in its enlisted ranks, of foreigners. Its international character and the tradition of not revealing enlistees' backgrounds have helped to surround the Foreign Legion with an aura of mystery and romance.  adventures - ``Morocco'' and ``Beau Geste'' - on Saturday night, while two of his popular westerns are set for Sunday. ``Wolf Song'' teamed Cooper with his real-life lover of the time, Lupe Velez, in the romantic tale of a backwoods trapper and his fiery-tempered bride. It's followed by the 1929 version of ``The Virginian,'' widely considered the template for conventional Hollywood westerns.

Other titles in the series, running through May 24, include ``Desire,'' ``Love in the Afternoon,'' ``The Pride of the Yankees,'' and his two Oscar-winning performances in ``Sergeant York'' and ``High Noon High Noon

The motion picture academy in Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  has opened an exhibition of Cooper memorabilia, including photos, correspondence, posters, props, his saddle and one of his Oscar statuettes. : One of the top comedy directors of the '30s and '40s is being saluted in a film series titled ``Feel His Pulse: Twelve Comedies by Gregory La Cava,'' running through May 19 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. .

On Saturday, it's his very popular ``My Man Godfrey,'' with Carole Lombard and William Powell, followed by ``Lady in a Jam,'' with Irene Dunne as the ultimate screwball heroine who manages to drive even her shrink crazy.

Future titles in the series include two Constance Bennett romps - ``The Affairs of Cellini'' and ``Bed of Roses'' - as well as ``She Married Her Boss'' with Claudette Colbert and the improvisational masterpiece ``Stage Door'' with Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn, Andolphe Menjou, Lucille Ball and Eve Arden.

INDIAN FEST PLANNED: The first annual American Indian Film & New Media Festival won't take place until May 2002, but organizers are laying the groundwork today with panel discussions addressing issues important to these filmmakers.

The prefestival event, organized by festival founder and actor Floyd Red Crow Westerman Floyd Red Crow Westerman, born in 1936, is a Dakota musician, activist and actor born on the Lake Traverse Reservation, home of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Dakota (Sioux) in the U.S. state of South Dakota. , takes place from 3 to 9 p.m. at UCLA's James Bridges Theater and admission is free.

Two panels are planned. The first deals with the history of American Indians on film and will include clips of ``A Man Called Horse,'' ``Little Big Man'' and others. The second talk will center on business aspects of production, including financing, distribution and getting a project exhibited at film festivals.

ODDS AND ENDS: The Directors Guild of America will host a free marathon of John Ford's movies, running 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., including ``The Iron Horse,'' ``The Quiet Man,'' ``Stagecoach'' and a recently discovered and restored print of his 1928 silent, ``Four Sons.''
