FILM OF THE DAY; The Tailor of Panama (Film4, 9pm).


Impressive espionage thriller from John Boorman, with plenty of humour thrown in for good measure. Pierce Brosnan (right) stars as a spy who, following an ill-advised liaison with an ambassador's lover, is given a new assignment in Panama as punishment. However, it's not long before he comes up with a cunning plan to make the most of his position - and convinces a local tailor with dubious connections to help him uncover information about the canal. A must see, with stellar performances from Brosnan, Geoffrey Rush Geoffrey Roy Rush (born 6 July 1951) is an Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning Australian actor.
