FILM FESTIVAL TO CLOSE WITH AWARDS DINNER.

The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  International Film Festival draws to a close tonight with an awards dinner at the Hyatt Valencia.

Boasting record attendance for the weeklong family-themed film fest at the Valencia Edwards Cinema, festival officials said the idea of showcasing movies minus gratuitous sex, swearing and violence is catching on.

``We've been very successful this year, definitely bigger than we were last year,'' said festival director Patte Dee.

Awards also will be given for Best Feature, Best Foreign Film, Best Short, Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best Screenplay - Drama, Best Screenplay - Comedy, Best Screenplay - Animation, Best Screenplay - SciFi/Adventure, and the festival Director Gold Award.

Special awards include the Producers Guild of America's Student Filmmaker Award and the Top Applause Award for the film chosen as best by tonight's audience.

Jones, who has received Academy and Peabody awards for his work in animation as a film producer and director, will receive the festival's Friz Award for lifetime achievement in the art of animation.

Jones directed ``What's Opera, Doc?'' ``Duck Dodgers in the 24-1/2 Century,'' ``For Scent-imental Reasons'' and ``How the Grinch Stole Christmas.''
