FILM FESTIVAL GETS FILMMAKERS READY FOR THEIR CLOSEUP.Byline: CAROL ROCK Staff Writer SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, -- A celebration of independent filmmaking opens today, offering workshops and screenings before culminating in an awards ceremony Monday night. The Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. Film Festival, which began in 2005 as the dream of independent producer/director Ramon Hamilton, is in its second year. ``The festival is dedicated to providing a truly open forum for independent filmmakers, promoting diversity and creating a community in the Santa Clarita Valley that supports multi-cultural filmmaking,'' Hamilton said in a statement. The festival kicks off with a free seminar on film financing at 1 p.m. today. Other free workshops, scheduled Saturday and Sunday, will focus on promotion and management, production and distribution and sound and post-production. The festival will be held in the downtown Newhall Arts District, with workshops and a majority of the screenings at the Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the ; high school and college student film competition entries will be screened at the Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 San Fernando Road. An awards ceremony will be held Monday night at the Hilton Garden Inn Hilton Garden Inn is the name of a chain of hotels operated by Hilton Hotels Corporation. Hilton Garden Inns are considered to be upscale, mid-priced hotels that are designed for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel brand is similar to that of the Courtyard by Marriott brand. in Valencia. Tickets for the festival are $4 per film screening, $8 for a day pass or $30 for an all-access VIP pass, which includes all screenings and the awards ceremony.
