FILM/SNEAK PEEK : TO SEE KING OF BIG SCREEN, HEAD TO UNIVERSAL.

Byline: - Valerie Kuklenski

For Southern Californians, mention of ``Universal'' may mean studio theme park or concert venue, but next week the Valley entertainment mecca gets back to its movie roots.

Six popular titles from Universal Studios will be shown Wednesday through Jan. 24 at the Universal Amphitheatre, which has been specially reconfigured with what is believed to be the world's largest normal-format movie screen and a 60-speaker surround-sound system.

The bill includes ``Psycho,'' ``Jaws,'' ``American Graffiti,'' ``Fast Times at Ridgemont High,'' ``National Lampoon's Animal House'' and ``The Blues Brothers.''

Universal says that, for the occasion, new 35mm prints have been struck directly from the original film elements.

Tickets cost $12 for reserved seats, $8 for general admission, $6 for matinees and $30 for a Saturday marathon of five of the movies. Schedule information and tickets are available through the Universal Amphitheatre box office or Ticketmaster, (213) 252-8497.

`Pretty Village' screens

The Yugoslav feature ``Pretty Village Pretty Flame,'' which has garnered a lot of attention on the international film-festival circuit, comes to Los Angeles for Laemmle's International Cinema Showcase.
