Of course, Oscar and Forman are longtime acquaintances, even though they weren't working together this year. Proceeds from the Forman bash will benefit the Artists Rights Foundation's activities. Individual tickets range from $250 to $500. Tables of 10 range from $5,000 to $25,000.

The dinner is the culmination of the two-day International Artists Rights Symposium at the Directors Guild in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . Panel discussions during the conference will focus on the Internet as a means of film distribution; film revision and manipulation; and property rights vs. individual rights.

The luncheon speaker on April 18 will be U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch Orrin Grant Hatch (born March 22, 1934) is a Republican United States Senator from Utah, serving since 1977.

Hatch is a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, where he serves on the subcommittees on Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure and Taxation and IRS

Free movies in Westwood

Eight musicals spanning six decades of cinema will be shown for free on April 24 during the third annual Westwood Village Classic Film Festival, which this year celebrates ``Music in the Movies.''

The films are: ``Showboat'' (1936); ``Stormy Weather'' (1943); ``Singin' in the Rain'' (1952); ``Sound of Music'' (1965); ``Woodstock'' (1970); ``Cabaret'' (1972); ``Grease'' (1978); and ``Little Shop of Horrors'' (1986).

Each screening will be preceded by a discussion with the audience by an artist associated with the film. Among those scheduled to speak are: Rick Moranis, Angela Cartwright, Michael York, Donald O'Connor and Cyd Charisse.
