FILM/SNEAK PEEK : MARCELLO MASTROIANNO RETROSPECTIVE SHOWING AT COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART.


Marcello Mastroianni. Just saying the name is fun. Marcello Mastroianni. So Italian. So romantic. So manly.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles.  Film Department will honor the late actor and international star on three upcoming weekends with ``Arrividerci Marcello,'' a retrospective of his work.

Mastroianni died Dec. 29, 1996, at age 72 following a bout with pancreatic cancer pancreatic cancer

. During his career, he made more than 120 films, many with director Federico Fellini, who often praised the actor's instinctive performances and lack of vanity.

Although he never won an Oscar, Mastroianni was nominated several times: For ``Divorce, Italian Style'' (1961), ``A Special Day'' (1977) and ``Dark Eyes.'' He also won the Cannes Best Actor Award for ``Dark Eyes.''

History revisted

``Nuremberg,'' a documentary about the Nuremberg Nazi trials that was made from more than 1 million feet of film shot during the actual 1945 court hearings, will be shown at 7 p.m. June 2, at the Museum of Tolerance The Museum of Tolerance is a multimedia museum in Los Angeles, California, with an associated museum in New York City, designed to examine racism and prejudice in the United States and the world with a strong focus on the history of the Holocaust.  Simon Wiesenthal Center This article is currently semi-protected to prevent sock puppets of currently blocked or banned users from editing it. . A panel discussion with Erik Barnouw, a scholar of documentary film history and a Columbia University professor emeritus, will follow the movie.

 who filmed the trials under a mandate from the Allied commander in charge of occupied Germany. The idea was to edit the material into a narrative showing the rise and fall of Hitler's Third Reich.

Upon completion, the film played to packed houses in the American and British sectors of occupied Germany. But here in the United States, it was simply stored in the National Archives.

With the intervention of first lady Jackie Kennedy in 1960, Lorentz was allowed to recut the film for broadcast on public television. It is that print that will be shown.
