 School of Theater, Film and Television to sponsor an annual fellowship for British students in the Film and Television department.

Oscar-winning art directors get their due tonight when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences screens two award-winning films in conjunction with its current gallery exhibition, ``From Script to Screen: The Art of Production Design.''

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre also will allow admission to the gallery exhibit after doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, good for either or both of the films, are $5 for the general public and $3 for motion picture academy members.

Dealing with 10-percenters

It seems everybody is working on a screenplay these days, but those who intend to make a living at it must learn how to deal with the middlemen who sell their work.

Beginning Saturday, Jerry Zeitman of the Agency will teach a four-week seminar for Sherwood Oaks College titled Working With Agents. The weekly two-hour sessions begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Playhouse, 1445 N. Las Palmas Ave.

Abraham Polonsky, a screenwriter and director who was blacklisted in 1951 in Hollywood after refusing to answer questions before the House Un-American Activities Committee House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), a committee (1938–75) of the U.S. House of Representatives, created to investigate disloyalty and subversive organizations. Its first chairman, Martin Dies, set the pattern for its anti-Communist investigations. , is back in the spotlight with the publication of the complete screenplay for his 1948 noir classic ``Force of Evil.'' California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , and Sadanlaur Publications also have printed a compilation of 10 teleplays from the 1950s history-based TV series ``You Are There,'' written by Polonsky and two other blacklisted writers under pseudonyms.

Polonsky, who emerged from his creative exile in 1969 with ``Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here,'' will be appearing at various Barnes & Noble bookstores to discuss his career and the events that shaped it.

Dancing `Shoes'

``The Red Shoes,'' winner of the 1948 best picture Academy Award, will open a series of films co-directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger being shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. .

Powell and Pressburger's collaboration from 1938 to 1956 resulted in 15 films that ranged stylistically from realism to grand theatricality, dealing with romance, the imagination, spirituality and sexuality.

``The Red Shoes,'' playing Sept. 27, stars Moira Shearer as a young girl passionate about ballet. It also won an Oscar for best score and was nominated for three others.

Other titles in the Powell-Pressburger series include: ``The Spy in Black'' and ``Contraband'' (Oct. 3), ``A Matter of Life and Death'' and ``The Small Back Room'' (Oct. 4), ``I Know Where I'm Going!'' and ``A Canterbury Tale'' (Oct. 10), ``Black Narcissus'' and ``Gone to Earth'' (Oct. 11), ``The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp'' (Oct. 17), and ``The Tales of Hoffman'' and ``Oh ... Rosalinda!'' (Oct. 18).

All screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. at the museum's Bing Theatre, 5905 Wilshire Blvd. Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for museum members, members of the American Film Institute American Film Institute (AFI), nonprofit organization established in Washington, D.C., in 1967 by the National Endowment for the Arts to preserve and catalog American films and television, to provide work grants for new and established filmmakers, and to increase  and students with valid identification.
