FIELD TO BE NAMED AFTER CIVIC LEADER.

Byline: Nathaniel Greely Staff Writer

GLENDALE - A field at the Glendale Sports Complex off Fern Lane will be named after Ruth Dodson, a longtime civic leader and former parks commissioner who died in November, city officials said Wednesday.

The Glendale City Council has agreed to name field No. 2 at the complex after Dodson. The city staff recommended putting Dodson's name on field because it is the first one visitors see when arriving at the park.

Dodson served two terms on the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission, working tirelessly to acquire funding for parks in Glendale, including the Sports Complex, city officials said.

``She was absolutely an extremely special person here in the city of Glendale,'' Mayor Ginger Bremberg said. ``She devoted a great deal of time and energy and skill to helping out here in the city and in the parks department in particular.''

The council's unanimous decision Tuesday on the field name An assigned name for a field (NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, etc.) that will be the same in every record. confirms the Glendale Parks and Recreation Commission decision on Jan. 12 to name a field or clubhouse after Dodson. A bronze plaque will be installed on the wall surrounding the field.

Dodson also worked with Glendale Beautiful, the Glendale Rose Float Association and the Days of Verdugo Association.
