FIEI works Capitol Hill.* EVERY association urges its members to get active in the political process, and some of them do get involved from time to time. But the Farm & Industrial Equipment Institute made more than that happen in May when it held its Marketing & Management Conference in Washington. The event went beyond briefings from governmental and related movers and shakers Shakers, popular name for members of the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, also called the Millennial Church. Members of the movement, who received their name from the trembling produced by religious emotion, were also known as Alethians. . Participants got a chance to make appointments and visit their senators and representatives and discuss their views on such matters as product liability, farm legislation and deficit reduction in the budgeting process. After a special presentation on legislative initiatives by Dr. Lynn Daft, a farm policy consultant, the group went to the executive office building for briefings on the Reagan economic program, the budget and the deficit, and U.S. agricultural trade policy. Following that, the group was addressed at lunch by Kansas Sen. Robert Dole, the majority leader, on the legislation effort to produce a budget which could be a start toward deficit reduction. That afternoon was devoted to the visits with congressmen. Other programming: * Comments on farm policy by John R.
