FIBRONICS' FDDI BACKBONE SOLUTION SELECTED FOR EURO DISNEY

FIBRONICS' FDDI BACKBONE SOLUTION SELECTED FOR EURO DISNEY
HYANNIS, Mass., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Fibronics International Inc. (NASDAQ: FBRX) announced today that it has been chosen to provide 35 high-speed FDDI bridges for Euro Disney of Paris, France. Euro Disney will install Fibronics' FX8210 FDDI Learning Bridges to support both 16 and 4 Mbps Token Ring networks and 10 Mbps Ethernet networks for interconnecting its business, office and scientific applications, and the information systems of its major attractions and energy management system.
"Fibronics is pleased to participate in this unique project," said John Hislop, joint chief executive officer for Fibronics. "Disney and France Telecom chose our equipment because it meets their stringent standards for network reliability, flexibility and throughput, as well as security and network management."
France Telecom is the sole contractor of telecommunications services to Euro Disney Resorts. Alternative solutions to FDDI, such as remote bridging at 16 Mbps, did not meet France Telecom's requirements for network throughput of 100 Mbps or for efficient management of both Token Ring and Ethernet on the same node. Routing technology was also not considered due to its potential for delays and proprietary level three protocols.
"Our fast, high-quality translation bridges have helped make Fibronics a leader in the FDDI bridge and router market," said Bill Panepinto, director of marketing for Fibronics. "Our FDDI bridges are easier to maintain and more cost effective than the alternative solutions France Telecom considered."
Initially implemented as a backbone to connect multiple FDDI stations in 20 buildings, Fibronics' System Finex FDDI Extended LAN solution will be used in the new network to support over one hundred Token Ring and Ethernet LANs, hundreds of personal computers and cash registers, and numerous mainframes and workstations for over 100 buildings across the 5,000-acre theme park. By 1996, Euro Disney's entire network system is expected to double in size.
Fibronics' FX8210 Series -- FX8210 Ethernet/802.3, FX8210 Token Ring/802.5 and FDDI Translation Bridge -- consists of high-speed, multi-protocol FDDI bridges that provide FDDI connectivity to Ethernet and Token Ring local area networks. Featuring an optical bypass, dual-counter rotating and spanning tree algorithm, Fibronics' FX8210 Series FDDI bridges increase network reliability and availability. Programmable bridge filtering software (FX8520) is also offered for access control to FDDI resources, reduced interconnection loading and increased network security.
Considered one of the most ambitious projects in European history, Euro Disney will open its gates on April 12th of 1992 to welcome over 11 million visitors within the first year of operation.
France Telecom is a primary provider of telecommunications services to France and offers a wide range of ISDN and intelligent public network solutions to the country's largest business and government institutions.
