FIAT AUTO PRESENTS KEY ELEMENTS OF F.A.R.E. CAR RECYCLING

NEW YORK, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ing. Paolo Scolari, vice president of Fiat Auto, today presented the key elements of the company's F.A.R.E. Car Recycling Project to the 19th Session of the United Nations Commission on Transnational Corporations.
The invitation for this presentation was extended by the United Transnational Corporations and Management Division in recognition of the F.A.R.E. project's contribution to sustainable development in recycling programs. At this particular point in time, no legal obligation for the recycling of cars is in existence.
The main objective of the F.A.R.E. project is to recycle automobiles in an economically self-supporting manner. The materials which are used to produce the automobiles are almost entirely being recycled, thus reducing the burden on the environment created by discarded automobiles.
The F.A.R.E. project makes use of existing industrial and car demolishing facilities. Fiat Auto has licensed a number of car demolishing companies to participate in the F.A.R.E. project. Fiat Auto supervises this operation so that it is carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.
The project which is presently operating in a number of Italian regions will eventually be extended throughout Italy.
Ing. Scolari's presentation also included several other aspects of Fiat Auto's activities which make significant contributions to sustainable development.
