DUKE - "A lacrosse scandal? J.J. Redick's DUI? What could a Duke hater possibly ask for as a Christmas present? How about starting QB Zack Asack being suspended for the season thanks to a bout with plagiarism?...Duke has lost 26 letterman, 11 of whom were starters. The rest of the talent remains below ACC caliber. Worst loss prediction: Sept. 16 at Va Tech, Oct 14 vs. Florida St. and Oct. 21 vs. Miami" 2. SYRACUSE - "Syracuse needs more from QB Perry Patterson, who threw six TDs and was sacked 32-times, breaking Paris Hilton's record for an 11-week span. Worst loss: Oct. 14 at W. Virginia" 3. KENTUCKY - "RB Rafael Little played big with 1,045 yards and a team-high 46 receptions last year. But that didn't prevent the Wildcats from fielding the 107th - ranked offense in the nation. Worst loss: Sept. 23 at Florida" 4. WASHINGTON - "Top WR Craig Chambers decided to transfer after a dispute with coaches. Washington hasn't endured something this embarrassing since Frasier. Worst loss: Oct. 7 at USC" 5. MISSISSIPPI STATE - "Coach Sylvester Croom welcomes back 19 starters. But two-time 1,000-yard rusher Jerious Norwood is not one of them. Worst loss: Oct. 7 vs. W. Virginia" 6. MISSISSIPPI - "Brent Schaeffer threw for 2,970 yards and 40 TDs while rushing for 860 yards and 10TDs as a JUCO All-America. They'll need Schaeffer to light it up because coach Ed Orgeron has to comb Craig's List to find four new defensive linemen. Worst loss: Nov. 18 at LSU" 7. BAYLOR - "Baylor clawed their way to 5-6 last season, but with an 8-72 Big 12 record over the last decade, .500 is a long way off. Worst loss: Nov. 18 vs. Oklahoma" 8. VANDERBILT - "The Commodores went 5-6 last year thanks to stud NFL prospect QB Jay Cutler. His replacement, Chris Nickson, can ignite a strong passing offense this season, but that offense won't cover for a defense that surrenders more than the French. Worst loss: Oct. 14 at Georgia" 9. INDIANA - "QB Blake Powers had a good 2005 season throwing for 2,305 yards with 22 TDs. But with 16 interceptions he was as accurate as Star magazine's pregnancy predictions. A weak defense should prevent the Hoosiers from topping last year's 4-7 record. Worst loss: Oct. 21 at Ohio St." 10. ILLINOIS - "No one expected the Illini to be better than 2-9 in (Coach Ron) Zook's first season since they had gone 1-23 in the conference since 2003. But, with a good recruiting crop to go along with 20 returning starters, the Illini should fight their way out of FHM's worst-10 list after this season. Worst loss: Oct. 21 vs. Penn St." Honorable Mention: The top 10 worst non-BCS teams in College Football: 1. Temple; 2. Rice; 3. New Mexico State; 4. Kent State; 5. Buffalo; 6. San Jose State; 7. Utah State; 8. North Texas; 9. Florida Atlantic; 10. Idaho. The October October: see month. issue of FHM hits newsstands Tuesday Tuesday: see week. , September September: see month. 12. |
