) attract international visitors to the Marianas Islands.

StarrTech provided graphic design and site layout while FGM developed a Content Management System and a Language Translation Tracking System (LaTTS) giving the MVA the ability to efficiently and easily update, translate, and manage multilingual web site content.

Mr. Jonas Ogren, Managing Director of the Marianas Visitors Authority said, "As the promotional arm for the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands' tourism industry, it is important that we maintain an online presence on the world wide web, especially as it is an important tool in the travel decision making process. The system developed by FGM makes it simple for us to manage the information and fulfills our responsibility to promote our destination and our members' products and services."

The MVA web site promotes local Marianas Islands businesses and encourages businesses to become MVA web site members to benefit from such promotion (www.mymarianas.com).

FGM's LaTTS methodology incorporates the latest web technology and brings together geographically-dispersed content managers and translators through one familiar web interface. LaTTS uses XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.
to store translated data, and eliminates the need for multiple databases to exist for the different languages and translations.

Using ColdFusion, XML, and the Oracle Relational Database relational database

, FGM implemented a three-tier architecture to facilitate easy maintenance of the web site content and a tool for translators to monitor and update content requiring translation. LaTTS provides seamless integration An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  of the translation process and tracks that process with web-based forms, reports, and email notifications.

Victor Chongchua, Director of FGM's Hawaii Operations said, "The Hawaii tourism industry is largely dependent upon international visitors; especially Japanese visitors whom in 2001 made up nearly 22% of the total annual visitor expenditures. A multilingual Internet presence with dynamic, relevant data is crucial to Hawaii businesses hoping to attract international visitors. We were pleased to partner with StarrTech on this project which combined their stellar design work with our LaTTS methodology and Content Management System."
