Today, she teaches that same course to individuals yearning for the same knowledge she sought so many years ago. ``I really enjoy being an `egger' because it provides a chance to be creative and to make wonderful friends from all around the world,'' Osgood said. Beverly Gaus, a member of the North Texas Egg Art Guild, made her third trip to California as a show participant and notes that egg art has become a family tradition. ``My daughter is really involved with very intricate egg work, and at 4 years old, my granddaughter wanted to do her first egg,'' Gaus said. ``Today, she's the youngest member of the International Egg Art Guild.'' Ann Copeland, who with Osgood heads the Tri-County Egg Artist Club, has been creating extravagant eggs since seeing a display at a local Christmas boutique over 20 years ago. ``I really had no knowledge of eggshell artistry until then. I remember coming around the corner and seeing a very attractive woman seated at a table with the most beautiful eggs I'd ever seen,'' Copeland said. Copeland's love affair with eggshell art was instantaneous. ``It gives you an opportunity to use your imagination and virtually create whatever you want, and at the same time, it's really therapeutic,'' she said. Copeland explained that she attended her very first lesson the same night of her father's cancer surgery. ``It helped lift me up during an otherwise difficult time,'' she said. Eggshell art is as unique as each artist's individual tastes and preferences - techniques and styles range from Ukranian egg designs, decoupage, mosaic, beaded, intricate sceneries and even ostrich-shell jewelry boxes. The Tri-County eggers have used their creations to make a diver's helmet, an electric train and a goldfish bowl - complete with fish. ``It's hard to publicize this event because most people automatically think of Easter eggs dipped in dye. That's why you just have to come see the eggs for yourself first hand,'' Copeland said. CAPTION(S): 2 Photos PHOTO (1) Sharon Grant displays some of her decorated eggs.
