FEGEN KEEPS GOING STRONG HE'S AN ATHLETE, LAND DEVELOPER, LAWYER, PARTY ANIMAL.

Among the more intriguing and eccentric characters you'll meet is Paul Fegen, a former star prep athlete, legendary Hollywood nightlife legend and party host.

Through the years, Fegen has been a vital land and business developer in the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  and San Fernando valleys. But the former nationally ranked gymnast from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  High and 1980 Super Bowl halftime dancer is better known in most circles for his wild New Year's Eve bashes, along with his look-at-me penchant for purple Excalibur coupes and custom sparkly spark·ly

``I used to have huge parties where you had to wear purple to get in,'' he said. ``I guess it's my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. ``My plan,'' he said, ``is to keep enjoying life and be happy until I'm 100.''

Fegen shows no sign of slowing down, still partying into the wee hours every Saturday at the famous Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip The Sunset Strip is the name given to the mile and a half stretch of Sunset Boulevard that passes through West Hollywood, California. It extends from West Hollywood's east border with Hollywood at Marmont Lane to its west border with Beverly Hills at Phyllis street. .

As for marriage, that's something the senior playboy has barely considered.

``It probably will never happen because I simply can't find a girl who loves me as much as I love myself,'' he said with a shrug.

Will Paul Fegen go on forever? Perhaps not, but Los Angeles won't be the same without him.

--Canyon High, which lost its final 11 softball games to finish 6-17 last season, is off to its best start in years. Led by pitcher Nicole Johnson, the Cowboys are is 4-1 heading into today's nonleague game against visiting Quartz Hill.

Johnson, a returning sophomore right-hander, is 4-1, and she also is among three Canyon players to hit a home run. Cassie Foster and Sharon Sanders also have homered.

Meanwhile, Canyon's rivalry with Golden League competitor Highland of Palmdale couldn't possibly be closer. After splitting six games - all by one run - a year ago, Canyon defeated Highland 1-0 in nine innings on March 8.

--Corey Bryant, who after taking over at quarterback helped Golden Valley High win two of its last three football games following an 0-7 start last season, is quite a busy young man.

Besides winter workouts with the football team, Bryant also competes in two spring sports - golf and baseball - and he even finds time to work at Magic Mountain and play for the theme park's club basketball team.

``It's difficult to balance everything, but somehow I manage it all,'' Bryant said.

--Saugus High's dance team won seven first-place awards at the large-scale 25th annual Golden Cup competition in Hacienda Heights last weekend.

Saugus looks to parlay its success at the USA Nationals in Anaheim this weekend.

--After witnessing Agoura High baseball phenom Robert Stock strike out five of six batters he faced to save an 8-4 victory over host Valencia in Saturday's Easton tournament final, Valencia coach Jared Snyder is convinced Stock is the hardest-throwing teenager to pitch in Santa Clarita since Saugus legend Roger Salkeld in the late 1980s.

``They both throw so hard, but the difference is Stock also has a plus curveball,'' Snyder said. ``He's pretty darn good.''
