FEDERAL FUNDING SECURED FOR LAB; SCIENCE CENTER GETS ADDITIONAL $2 MILLION.

Byline: Jennifer Hamm Staff Writer

An additional $2 million for a new Jet Propulsion Laboratory “JPL” redirects here. For other uses, see JPL (disambiguation).

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a NASA research center located in the cities of Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge, near Los Angeles, California, USA.
Science Center at Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.

has been secured, officials announced Friday.

The money will be used to buy equipment for the new facility to be built next year.

``It guarantees that we can go ahead with the center because now we have the money for the equipment and construction,'' said John A. Davitt, college superintendent and president.

Rep. James Rogan, R-Pasadena, said he worked to secure $2 million for equipment that will be made available thanks to a spending bill. President Clinton signed the Veterans Affairs - Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill this week.

The science center is expected to cost $4 million to $4.5 million. The construction costs are being split between federal appropriation money and private fund-raising efforts.

The college's foundation will chip in $1 million. Local businessmen Larry and Ralph Cimmarusti donated $1 million in March.

A $1 million endowment is also being established to cover ongoing costs of the science center.

Students from kindergarten through college will be able to use the center, which will be connected with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory mission control facilities.

It will also include astronomy, physics, oceanography oceanography, study of the seas and oceans. The major divisions of oceanography include the geological study of the ocean floor (see plate tectonics) and features; physical oceanography, which is concerned with the physical attributes of the ocean water, such as  and seismographic seis·mo·graph

``This facility unites two great area resources - bringing JPL (language) JPL - JAM Programming Language.  and the college together in a facility designed to connect students with teachers and expert scientists,'' said Rogan in a statement released to the press. ``There is no facility more deserving of federal funds Federal Funds
