FEDERAL EXPRESS SENIOR OFFICER RECEIVES TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP AWARD

 MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal Express Corporation (NYSE: FDX) today announced that one of its senior officers has received a top industry award for excellence in information systems management. The award was given by the Maryland-based Lattanze Center, at Loyola College, to Dennis H. Jones, Federal Express' senior vice president for Information and Telecommunications and chief information officer, at an award luncheon June 8 in Baltimore.
 The David D. Lattanze Center, cited by CIO Magazine as one of the ten most prominent academic information systems Centers in the country, selected Jones as the "Information Systems Executive of the Year" for leadership in the continuous improvement of strategic information systems and Federal Express' continuing dedication to customer satisfaction.
 The third recipient of the award, Jones is responsible for the planning and integrating of all strategic information systems processing, systems engineering and design activities and capabilities for the Federal Express operations worldwide. His organization, consisting of more than 4,200 professionals and managers, is responsible for software development, computer operations, telecommunications support, invoicing and customer automation activities worldwide.
 "The Lattanze award clearly demonstrates Federal Express' commitment to quality and customer service," states John C. McFadden, chairman of the Center's Executive of the Year committee. In noting the company's achievements, the Center acknowledged Federal Express' PowerShip program as "a new plateau in customer service," and stated that it "puts critical tracking information directly into the hands of customers, enhancing their ability to improve their own shipping performance." The PowerShip family is a desktop computing solution for customers to send and track their packages from their places of business providing direct access to Federal Express' centralized computer system. Federal Express has over 25,000 PowerShip placements at various customer locations.
 Jones joined Federal Express in 1975 as a senior financial analyst and has served in several managing director roles. He was promoted to corporate officer in the sales division in 1986, thereafter serving as the vice president of customer automation and invoicing. He was promoted to his present position in December 1991.
 Jones holds a Master's Degree in accounting and finance from Memphis State University and is a Certified Public Accountant with the State of Tennessee.
 Based in Memphis, Federal Express is the first company to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the service category. It is the world's largest express transportation company, providing time- definite services for more than 1.6 million items to 187 countries each working day. The company has more than 93,000 employees, operates 457 over aircraft and 31,000 computer and radio-equipped vehicles.
